Best Sanctions Screening Apps for Shopify (2026): Compared
A dated comparison of the sanctions screening apps on the Shopify App Store, covering lists, fulfillment holds, review workflow, evidence and pricing, sourced from each app's public listing.

Last reviewed: 8 October 2026. Disclosure: this article is published by MatchAudit, which makes one of the apps compared. Every competitor detail below comes from that app's public Shopify App Store listing as it appeared on 8 October 2026. Listings change, so check the current listing before you decide. We haven't tested competitors' apps internally and don't make claims beyond what their listings state.
Quick answer
A search of the Shopify App Store on 8 October 2026 for "sanctions," "OFAC," "sanctions screening," "denied party" and "restricted party" returned three apps whose main purpose is sanctions screening of orders: MatchAudit, sanctions.io and Isarud. EdgeCTP is a broader trading suite that includes restricted-party screening. All three dedicated apps are new: each launched in 2026, and none had public reviews on the review date.
- Choose MatchAudit if you want screening that holds fulfillment on a possible match, a human review step inside Shopify admin, country-risk checks, Shopify Flow integration and exportable evidence of every decision.
- Choose sanctions.io if broad watchlist coverage (its listing says "US, EU, UN, UK, and 100+ global watchlists") is your priority.
- Choose Isarud if you want a single flat price and simple tagging, and you're comfortable with tags as the output rather than holds and stored case records.
How we compared
We looked at what matters when a regulator, bank or payment provider asks what you did:
- Coverage. Which lists, and are they current?
- Parties. Billing, shipping, customer, company?
- Action. Does a match stop fulfillment, or just add a tag?
- Review. Is there a decision step with a named reviewer?
- Destination. Is country risk checked?
- Evidence. Can you export what was screened, matched and decided?
- Price at your order volume.

MatchAudit
What it is. MatchAudit is a Shopify app built around the decision rather than the alert: screen, hold, review, record.
Strengths:
- Holds fulfillment on open fulfillment orders when there's a possible match, a holding country result, or a selected list that couldn't be checked. The order is never cancelled, refunded or edited by the app.
- Screens every party: billing name, shipping name, customer and every company name, including Shopify B2B company and location names.
- Selectable sources per store, including OFAC SDN and Consolidated, EU, UN, UK Sanctions List, Swiss SECO, the US Consolidated Screening List (which includes BIS's Entity List and Denied Persons List), Australia, Canada and eight EU member-state national lists.
- Fail-closed freshness: lists refresh on a six-hourly schedule, and an order is clear only when every selected list was current.
- Country risk for billing and shipping countries separately, with merchant rules that can only tighten the result.
- Review in Shopify admin with a plain-language score explanation, an optional AI-written recommendation (no customer names, addresses or IDs are sent to the model), and deterministic overrides. A staff member must press the button.
- Evidence: append-only, hash-linked decision records with list versions, matched-entry hash, algorithm version, threshold and reviewer. PDF and JSONL exports on paid plans, and a per-case PDF.
- Shopify Flow: triggers Order flagged for sanctions review and Order screening cleared, and the action Screen order for sanctions. For example, capture payment only after a clear screening.
- Ongoing and historical screening: a Directory of screened parties that's automatically re-screened when lists update, scheduled re-screens, and a free one-time screen of past orders.
Limitations to know:
- New on the App Store (launched 24 September 2026) with no reviews yet.
- The admin interface is in English.
- The Free plan doesn't include evidence-record exports; those start on paid plans.
- It screens parties and destinations; it doesn't classify products for export control.
- Without Shopify's protected
read_all_ordersscope, the historical screen covers the most recent 60 days of orders.
sanctions.io
What its listing says. "Automated sanctions screening for shopify merchants. Check customers, companies, and orders against US, EU, UN, UK, and 100+ global watchlists — at checkout or on demand. Reduce false positives with smart matching, flag high-risk counterparties before shipment, and maintain full audit trails for trade compliance." Listed features include bulk and real-time screening and "audit-ready case management."
Strengths per listing: the widest stated list coverage of the apps compared; a free plan with 20 requests a month; screening of customers, companies and orders; case management with screening history.
Things to check before installing: the listing doesn't say whether the app places a Shopify fulfillment hold or only flags the order; whether country risk is assessed; whether it integrates with Shopify Flow; or which export formats are available for the audit trail. It launched in May 2026 and had no reviews on the review date. If you're looking for a sanctions.io alternative inside Shopify, those are the points to compare.
Isarud
What its listing says. "Every incoming order is screened in real time against OFAC, EU, UN, UK and other international sanctions lists. Clear orders are tagged isarud-clear; potential matches are tagged isarud-match so you can review them before fulfillment." It's "fully embedded, no external account required, no customer data stored. Screening is transient."
Strengths per listing: a simple flat $19.99/month price, embedded operation, and tag-based output you can use in your own workflows. Not storing customer data may suit merchants who prioritize data minimization.
Things to check before installing: tagging alone doesn't stop fulfillment, so you'd need your own hold logic. "No customer data stored" and "transient" screening also raise the question of what record you'll have later of what was screened and decided. The listing doesn't state a monthly volume for the plan. It launched in August 2026 and had no reviews on the review date.
EdgeCTP
What its listing says. A combined trading platform with CRM, stock control, invoicing, shipping, HS classification, a landed-cost calculator "and restricted party screening, all in one cloud solution." It has a 5.0 rating from 3 reviews and has been listed since 2021.
Who it suits: merchants who want trade operations, such as classification, landed cost and shipping, in one tool, with screening as one feature among several. The listing doesn't detail which lists are screened or how matches are handled, so check those points directly.
Country-blocking apps are not screening
Searches for "restricted party" also return apps such as Ship Restrict and Addify Country Restrictions. These block or hide products and shipping by location. That's useful for embargoed regions, but they don't check names against sanctions lists. Use them alongside a screening app, not instead of one.
What to check before you install any screening app
- Does a match stop fulfillment? A tag or an email can be missed. A hold can't.
- Which lists, and how fresh? Ask whether a stale list makes the app fail closed or fail open.
- Which parties? Billing, shipping, customer and company, including B2B companies.
- What's the record? Can you export what was screened, the list version, the match, the decision and the reviewer? For US sanctions, records must be kept for 10 years.
- Country checks? Is the shipping destination assessed, including regions like Crimea?
- What leaves your store? Which customer data is sent where, and is any of it sent to an AI model?
- What happens to data on uninstall? If the app deletes it, export first.
- Price at your volume, including overage rates.
Our recommendation
For a small store that wants an affordable, defensible process (screen, hold, decide, prove), MatchAudit was built for exactly that, and its paid plans are priced below sanctions.io's at each volume tier listed. If you need the broadest possible watchlist coverage, compare sanctions.io's list set directly. Whichever you choose, run the free tier on real orders before committing.
Try MatchAudit free on your own orders. Install from the Shopify App Store: 20 screenings a month on the Free plan, a 7-day free trial on paid plans, and a free one-time screen of your recent order history. Or read how it works on the MatchAudit sanctions screening page.
Frequently asked questions
What's the best Shopify app to check orders against sanctions lists? It depends on what you need from the result. If you need fulfillment holds, a review step and exportable evidence, MatchAudit is built for that. If list breadth is your priority, compare sanctions.io. If you want a flat-price tagger, look at Isarud.
Is there an affordable sanctions screening tool for a small online store? Yes. MatchAudit and sanctions.io both have free plans of 20 screenings a month. Paid plans start at $23 (MatchAudit) and $29 (sanctions.io) for 100 screenings, and Isarud is $19.99/month.
Are country-blocking apps enough? No. They restrict by location but don't detect listed persons, who can live anywhere.
Do these apps give legal advice? No. Screening is decision support. A person in your business still decides, and complex cases need a lawyer.
