Denied-Party Screening for Shopify B2B Exporters: A Pre-Shipment Checklist
Check relevant buyers and intermediaries, distinguish OFAC from export-control lists and document the decision before shipping industrial goods.

For Shopify B2B exports, screen relevant buyers, recipients and intermediaries against the sanctions and export-control sources that apply to the transaction. OFAC checks alone do not cover every U.S. export restriction. MatchAudit offers a selectable US BIS / Trade.gov Consolidated Screening List source alongside sanctions sources, with review records. A clear screening does not determine product classification, end-use restrictions or export-license requirements.
Why an exporter needs more than a name check
An illustrative wholesaler sells industrial sensors, circuit boards and replacement bearings through Shopify. The same item can raise different questions depending on its specifications, destination, customer and intended use. A familiar product description such as spare part is not a classification decision.
A buyer may also arrange delivery through a freight forwarder. That forwarder is a party to understand, not a substitute for knowing the ultimate recipient. If the purchasing team cannot explain who will use sensitive goods, a clear match result is only one piece of the review.
OFAC and export-control lists answer different questions
On small screens, scroll the table sideways to compare all columns.
| Source or control | What it contributes | What to examine after a finding |
|---|---|---|
| OFAC sanctions lists | Named sanctions targets and associated program information | Identity, applicable program, prohibitions and authorizations |
| BIS Entity List | Entity-specific export licensing restrictions | The entry, covered items and relevant licensing policy |
| BIS Denied Persons List | Persons subject to denial orders | The actual denial order and prohibited participation |
| BIS Unverified List | Parties whose bona fides could not be verified | Applicable restrictions and required further diligence |
| Product and end-use review | Controls arising from goods, technology, users or uses | Classification, destination and authorization requirements |
The Trade.gov Consolidated Screening List combines several U.S. government lists for screening convenience. Its components have different effects. Read the authoritative entry and underlying rules rather than treating every hit as the same blanket prohibition.
