Shopify Manual Payment Capture: Wait for Sanctions Screening Before Charging

To wait for sanctions screening before charging a supported payment method, configure manual payment capture in Shopify and connect an eligible clearance event to your payment workflow. MatchAudit's Order screening cleared trigger can supply that event in Shopify Flow. A fulfillment hold alone does not stop payment capture, and a sanctions-clear result does not replace fraud review.

This approach fits a merchant who wants a review window between authorization and charging. It requires testing with the store's actual gateway, payment methods and other automation.

Separate authorization, capture and fulfillment

Authorization asks the provider to reserve the ability to charge. Capture completes the payment step. Fulfillment supplies the goods or service. These states can progress independently, so a paid order may still need review and an authorized order may already be exposed to a shipping automation.

Shopify explains its payment capture options and provider differences. Some methods do not support manual capture. Check those exceptions before promising that every checkout will wait for your review process.

Configure a clearance-based workflow

1. Review Settings → Payments in Shopify and configure manual capture for supported transactions.
2. Complete MatchAudit setup and enable Hold every new order until it is screened if your dispatch policy requires that gate.
3. In Flow, choose MatchAudit's Order screening cleared trigger.
4. Add the conditions needed by your payment policy, including whether payment is authorized and whether separate fraud review is resolved.
5. Add Capture payment for orders eligible to be charged. Send exceptions to staff instead of assuming success.
6. Test a clear screening, a reviewer Allow decision, an unresolved case and an unsuccessful capture.

Shopify's Capture payment documentation requires the appropriate capture configuration and warns about extra authorizations from order edits or upsells. Test those paths if your store uses them.

Do not wire a separate payment-transaction trigger to unconditional capture just to fix an edited order. Any new payment path must still satisfy the same review conditions.
