Annual Customer Security Review Checklist: Prepare Before Renewal
Handle repeat customer assessments by checking what changed, refreshing evidence and recording the approved response. Includes a practical renewal review schedule.

An annual customer security review checklist helps a supplier prepare for a repeat assessment by identifying changes since the last approved response. Begin with the prior scope, compare the service and control changes, refresh affected evidence, review the answers and record what you submit this time.
Customer success managers usually know the renewal context. Customer trust, security and other domain owners verify the claims. Work together so the commercial timeline does not become a reason to reuse an inaccurate answer.
Confirm that a review is actually required
Ask the customer whether a new assessment is due, what scope it covers, which format to use and who will accept the response. Do not assume every customer runs the same annual cycle or requests the same evidence.
A public New York City procurement questionnaire lists renewal, annual audit and application upgrade among possible review reasons. It illustrates why reviews can recur; it does not establish a universal annual requirement for suppliers.
Record the customer's deadline and distinguish it from your internal target for an approved response. Confirm whether the assessment blocks renewal, expansion or activation rather than assuming the commercial consequence.
Use this preparation schedule as a starting point
The following schedule is illustrative. Adjust it to the customer's process and your team's actual turnaround times.
| When | Action | Output |
|---|---|---|
| About six weeks before the expected request | Confirm review timing, service and customer contact | Agreed assessment scope |
| About four weeks before the response target | Compare changes and inspect evidence freshness | Change and gap list with owners |
| About two weeks before the response target | Resolve expert questions and review draft answers | Reviewable response and evidence set |
| Before the agreed delivery date | Complete release checks and submit | Recorded approved version |
| After submission | Handle follow-up and capture the customer decision | Acceptance or remaining actions |
If a request arrives late, compress the planning steps without skipping scope confirmation or claim review. Give the customer a realistic next update date when completion is uncertain.
