Customer Security Review Tracker: A Practical Template for CS Teams
Track enterprise security reviews with clear owners, evidence gaps and next actions. Includes a copyable tracker and a customer status update template.

A customer security review tracker records what an enterprise customer needs, who owns the response, what is blocking it and the next action. For customer success managers, its main job is to turn “security is reviewing it” into an update someone can act on. For customer trust managers, it connects the customer deadline to the answer and evidence work underneath it.
This guide is for the supplier answering a customer's assessment. The customer still decides whether to accept your response and approve your service.
Start with the customer decision you need to support
An illustrative SaaS supplier has a signed order, but its customer's rollout is waiting on a security questionnaire and an updated continuity summary. The CSM marks onboarding as nearly complete; the security owner sees two unanswered questions; the customer sees silence. All three views can be internally consistent while hiding the actual blocker.
Create one record for that specific assessment. Record the legal customer, service, deployment, customer reviewer, requested decision and deadline. An assessment for a new service or region may need a separate scope even when the customer name is unchanged.
Keep commercial milestones separate. “Questionnaire submitted” is a supplier action. “Review accepted” is a customer decision. “Service activated” is an operational milestone. None proves the next one happened.

Use one row per assessment and a linked list for individual questions. The example is fictional; its dates are illustrative.
| Field | Example | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Review ID and customer | CR-014 / Example Bank | Stable reference across messages |
| Service and scope | Analytics SaaS / EU-hosted deployment | Prevents reuse of the wrong answer |
| Customer deadline | 18 November / confirm time zone | Sets the external expectation |
| Internal response owner | Customer trust lead | One person coordinates the response |
| Customer contact | Named security reviewer | Separates reviewer from account sponsor |
| Current stage | Awaiting internal expert | Describes the next dependency |
| Blocking item | Recovery-test evidence needs refresh | Makes the obstacle specific |
